American Red Cross Lifeguarding Class
Lifeguarding will help you develop skills and experience that will be valued by colleges and future employers. It’s a great way to show responsibility and commitment, and demonstrate effective people skills. Classroom curriculum includes:
- surveillance skills for recognizing and preventing injuries
- rescue skills in water and on land
- first aid, CPR and AED training
- professional guarding skills with regard to dealing with patrons
Class prerequisites: must be 15 years or older, must be able to swim 500yds without stopping (200 freestyle / 100 breaststroke / 200 combination); 10lb brick retrieval at 8ft depth

CPR Class (Recertification)
The American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED course teaches techniques of adult CPR and how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Students also learn to use barrier devices in CPR and give first aid for choking of the responsive adult, child or infant victim
The course shows how to recognized the signs of four major emergencies: heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest and FBAO (Foreign Body Airway Obstruction). A practical and written test is administered at the end of the course; a certificate of completion if given to those successfully passing all areas.

There is no fee for West Coast Aquatics staff needing recertification.
