RED II
I have noticed many parents believe that there
isn’t practice the day before a meet, and think it benefits their child to take
the day off to rest.
I have been swimming since the seventh grade and it
was drilled into my head not only from swimming but other sports that I should
make every practice before the meet/game.
There are many reasons why my coaches wanted us at practices – these are
the top ones:
1)
Swimming is not only an individual sport, it has
the team aspect of it and when the whole team is there practicing it brings the
kids closer and gets them mentally ready for the meet.
1)
Usually practices before a swim meet are not
physically demanding. Trust the coaches
and know they want what is best for our kids.
A lot of the practices consist of starts and turns and if your child
isn’t there to practice there starts for an individual or relay events it’s not
only hurting them (this is a valuable training opportunity) but the team also.
2)
Most importantly the kids having fun. Many parents and some coaches loose the sight
of just having fun. It is so important
that your child is having fun because if they are not they will get burnt out
and loose interest.
